Montenegro can praise with the largest lake in the Balkans. Located in between Podgorica and Bar, has Skadar area of ​​40,000 hectares. This natural treasure, the status of a national park has, besides Montenegro it is located in Albania. The border of Montenegro and Albania separates this lake in half.

The name comes from the Albanian city of Shkoder. Skadar Lake is also known as the Skadar Lake, Lake Shkodër and Shkodra Lake.

The lake is karst and is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Europe, with 270 bird species. It is a home of some of the last pelicans in Europe. It also contains habitats of seagulls and herons and is rich in fish, especially in carp, bleak and eel. There are 34 different native species of fish, 7 of which are endemic to Skadar Lake.
