Over the centuries, people have defended their towns by building huge walls around them. In this way they will be marking its territory, and at the same time felt protected from potential attackers or enemies. 1. Carcassonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

4. Nördlingen, Bavaria, Germany

There is a town in the district of Donau-Ries in Bavaria, Germany, which has a completely established city wall until today. This city is one of three in Germany, famous for its walls to mark their boundaries.

5. Taroundant, Marocco is

Entire city of Taroudant Located within its walls. Saadi dynasty used this city as the capital and built a wall around it in the year 1528.

. 6 Dubrovnik, Croatia

One of the most beautiful cities in the world, is surrounded by high thick walls. The city was founded in the 7th century, has walls nearly 2 miles long and its thickness about 4 meters.

7. York, UK

The walls around the city of York dating since Roman times.

8. Pingyao, China

The city walls of the city were in the 3rd year of Hondwu made emperor. It is also named as one of the best protected cities in the world.

9 . Shibam, Yemen

Shibam is a town in Yemen. It is the oldest city on the basis of vertical construction. The architectural style is built to protect the residents of Bedouin attacks.

10. Toledo, Spain

The city of Toledo in Spain surrounded on three sides by the Tagus. But has its fourth side wall.
