Not far from the coast of Sicily, there is a small, beautiful island of Favignana, the extraordinary beauty, crystal clear waters and interesting history is hidden. Known as similar to a characteristic shape of the coast such as butterfly wings, and it is the largest in Italy Aegadian Islands. Favignana Aegusa Alias is the largest, then comes Levanzo Alias Phorbantia and mallest Marettimo.
The stripped landscapes conceal ancient mysteries thousands of years old, and the sea around one of the largest schools of fish in the Mediterranean.

The beaches here are poor with sand, and those which should be to use the water to go through the rocks and you want to give the crystal clear waters of Favignana. The Cala Rossa beach is here and it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The coast is rich in cave systems, the houses of the first people were in Favignana and used them as a shelter form the pirate attacks. In some of them there are still drawings of Paleolithic.

Favignana is the island of contrasts. In the city center there is a prison with many Italian clubs. This tradition is kept used from the time of the ancient Romans, as the remotest islands were used as a prison.

Castle of Santa Caterina
About the city are the ruins of the castle of Santa Caterina, built by the Arabs, then added Normand People, and the kings of the Bourbon dynasty used as a prison. Today it is just ruins, remembering the eventful history of the island of Favignana are.
