Richmond has several interesting and beautiful historical monuments that are worth a visit. The capital was during both the Revolutionary and Civil War times in the foreground, so there are tons of remarkable monuments, objects, and government buildings to discover. Whether you're an American history buff or just a curious traveler, you'll love touring Richmond. Here are some of the main attractions that you simply can not miss.

Belle Isle

Belle Isle was a prisoner-of-war camp during the Civil War. Today it serves as a beautiful city park for nature lovers. With hiking trails, swimming areas, kayaking and rock jumping, it is Richmond's warm weather destination for locals and tourists alike.

Agecroft Hall

stands Overlooking James River Agecroft Hall, a Tudor estate, which was originally built in England in the late 15th century . In 1925, Thomas C. Williams bought it at an auction and had the house dismantled, shipped across the Atlantic and reassembled. Take a tour of the house and spot some authentic pieces as the original leaded glass The beautiful gardens Window., which the estate are worth to surround walking through.

The Executive Mansion

mansion is the oldest occupied governor in the United States is the Executive Mansion, which is located on Richmond Capitol Square. The mansion is a national cultural monument and Virginia has governors since 1813. You can take a tour of the mansion on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Monument Avenue

most Monument Avenue is host to some of the biggest events of the country. It is lined with statues of famous Virginians such as Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson. While you are there, you should take a walk through the old take mansions a reverence worthy site to make.

Edgar Allan Poe Museum

The Poe Museum is The old stone house, just a few blocks away from Poe's first home. The especially dark literary genius is here with original manuscripts, letters, personal objects, photographs celebrated, and so much more. If you're in American literature, then this museum should be definitely be high on your list.

Maymont Park

during the Golden Age of rich Built Virginians James Henry and Sallie May Dooley is the 100 acre estate a perfect destination for the family. You can download the Romanesque mansion that was built in 1893 in the Children's Farm Tour, walking through the ornate gardens, and even some fun who, filled with sheep, goats, pigs and donkeys.

Virginia State Capitol

Virginia State Capitol offers a breathtaking view of Richmond. It's been since 1788, and the state government today she still uses. It is a National Historic Landmark and is known for its design, which many credits to Thomas Jefferson and French architect, Charles-Louis Clérisseau. Plan your 30-minute tour at any time from Monday to Saturday.

If Richmond is not on your summer to-do list yet, get ready to add it. A capital with history, nature and a touch of southern charm wrapped flowers Richmond with markets, art and outdoor fun. From the Fan District Shockoe Bottom, Richmond is a great city to visit in the summer.

1. Hot Spots

2. Cool Spots

Cool off with a visit to the James River, the middle of downtown Richmond running, offering easy access to visitors and residents alike. Grab your kayak, take a guided boat tour, or stay on dry land and catch the sunset of Belle Isle.

For a serious thrills, the head 30 minutes north of the town of King's Dominion. This theme park will make your heart beat faster with rides such as to obtain Shockwave and cools them with plenty of water slides and water park rides.

3. Nature Spots

Enjoy. natural wonders of Richmond with a visit to Maymont, an estate in the early 20 century with 100 acres of trails, ponds, gardens and an original Gilded Age mansion, there is so much to discover

The summer brings thousands of flowers to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Look at everything from the Fountain Garden to the Meditation Garden, and do not waste your chance to get the butterflies in the conservatory fulfill not escape.

4. Historic Spots

Visit the Virginia State Capitol, where the oldest legislator Western Hemisphere will meet today. Take a tour to really appreciate this building, which was modeled after an ancient Roman temple.

For Richmond's best nightlife, do not miss Shockoe Bottom. dance away into the night at the Canal club or a cocktail under the chandeliers in the Tobacco Company Club.
