Fortaleza is the state capital of Ceará in northeastern Brazil. It's population is 2,550,000 and the entire metropolitan region of 3.6 million. It is one of the three leading cities in the Northeast in Brazil, together with Salvador and Recife. The history of Fortaleza starts on February 2, 1500, when the Spaniard Vicente Pinzon landed in Mucuripe Cove and named the new island of Santa Maria de la Consolacion.
