The amazing glacier caves of Iceland were formed by melting of ice due to geothermal activity (Iceland is richer in geothermal activity than any other country) other glacial caves are caused by glacial movement and water flow. Glacier caves are sometimes called (incorrectly) "ice cave" (which is actually caves, the one-year ice are included).
Some of the hidden glacial caves and small, while other caves reach up to several kilometers, like the one in Vatnajökull, which is nearly 3 km long!
In the summer glacier caves are potentially very dangerous, in the past some have suddenly collapsed killing visitors.
It is better to visit in the winter when the temperatures to be low enough safe, and always use a local guide are
